On the 4th August 2017 Whole Crop Marketing will be cycling 75 miles in one day to raise money for our chosen charity N.S.P.K.U
PKU (Phenylketonuria) is a rare inherited condition in which there is a build up of phenylalanine in the body, a natural substance and a building block of protein. About 1 in 10,000 babies in the UK have this condition which makes them unable to process a substance in their food. Without treatment, PKU has the potential to become serious, it can damage the brain and nervous system, which can lead to learning disabilities later on in life. All babies should be tested for PKU through the heel prick blood test because an early diagnosis allows correct treatment to start early in life.
The N.S.P.K.U. helps and supports people with PKU, their families and carers. The charity actively promotes the care and treatment of PKUs and working closely with medical professionals in the UK and sponsoring their research. It organises events such as conferences and study days, publishing a wide range of publications, including food lists for parents, PKUs and medical professionals.
